InvictaFC once again stacked the deck for their third card on Oct. 6 in Kansas City, KS.
Added to the already announced main event of Jessica Penne versus Naho Sugyama for the company’s initial atomweight title; another dozen matches were announced Wednesday.
In the co-main event, #7 Unified ranked bantamweight Shayna Baszler looks to come back from a decision loss at InvictaFC 2 to face #9 ranked Sarah D’Alleio, who got an impressive submission win over Vanessa Porto at the same event. A win by D’Alleio would help her argument as a possible bantamweight title challenger.
The flyweights will be featured in two bouts that could serve as future title contenders. One of the best 125ers in the sport Tara LaRosa will try to make her mark in the Invicta cage as she takes on the aforementioned Porto.
LaRosa has only lost twice in her 23 fight career. Porto (14-5) was on a four fight win streak until her loss to D’Alleio. This will be Porto’s debut at 125 pounds.
In the other flyweight bout, #3 Unified ranked Barb Honchak will take #4 ranked Aisling Daly. Honchak is on a five fight win streak; with her latest win over Bethany Marshall at Invicta 2. Daly was on a three fight win streak before losing a close decision to Rosi Sexton in June. Daly is the current NAAFS 125 pound champ.
Three strawweight bouts have also been announced. #4 ranked Carla Esparza (7-2) looks to make it three in a row against a returning Lynn Alvarez (5-2). In what will be a battle of two amateurs making their pro debuts, Teicia Torres (7-0 ammy) will take on Kaiyana Rain (5-1-1).
And what will be a match with international flavor, Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood will take on the undefeated St. Louis phenom #9 ranked Ashley Cummins.
#5 ranked Michelle Waterson will make her promotional debut against Lacey Schuckman – who lost her bout against Ayaka Hamsaki at InvictaFC 2. A win by Waterson could see her as a possible challenger for the winner of the main event. Fellow 105er Stephanie Frausto to even her record as she takes on Amy Davis.
Other matches announced include a featherweight fight with Elaina Maxwell and Julia Budd, who could fight promotional main stay Marloes Coenen in the future. Leslie Smith returns to Invicta as she will take on Cat Zinagno, who is moving up to bantamweight. Jessamyn Duke (1-o) and Marciea Allen (1-0) will both look for their second pro win.
Finally, the long awaited pro debut of top ammy bantamweight Taylor Stratford (9-1 ammy) will happen on the card, as she takes on undefeated Katalina Malungahu (2-0 pro) at 145.
The card will take place at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS Oct. 6. For those who can’t make it there, the fights will stream live and free on InvictaFC.com.
