Cyborg Denies Fight with Rousey; Wants out of Strikeforce

As much as Strikeforce champ Ronda Rousey wants to fight Cyborg Santos at 135 pounds; it is a fruitless challenge.

Santos not only stated that is is unwilling to go to 135 pounds, but stated since the promotion was eliminating the 145 division; Cyborg wants out of her contract.

“Guys can not believe this fight will happen,” Cyborg tweeted Saturday night. “My (weight) class has no more. I’m waiting for my liberation from (Zuffa).”

Cyborg hinted that InvictaFC could be her new destination if Strikeforce does let her go. Brazil also is an option, as she has been getting a lot of fight offers there.

Cyborg is still on suspension for a positive drug test, which will end in December. The only other possible challengers at featherweight in Strikeforce would be Julia Budd or Germaine de Randamie if the promotion decides to have Cyborg fight in January.

  1. After training with Sarah Kaufman and seeing how Ronda handled her Cyborg did the only logical thing which is get the fuck out of dodge. LOL I want to hear all the Cyborg supporters defend her not wanting to put in the work to get to 135..

    • Ronda doesn’t want to go up so she can get beat, while Cyborg doesn’t want to be unhealthy going to 135. Why GSP vs. Anderson Silva will never happen. Plus it has been stated that 135 will ultimately be the only division in SF.

  2. that wasnt Cyborg’s weight dumbass she fights at 145 she has nothing to prove ronda was at 145 went down to 135 and calls out cyborg bullshit move who’s dodging who you stupid fuck….

  3. Remember the golden rule. She who has the gold makes the rules. Cyborg has no juice in this matter. She is a cheater and cheaters never win at least that is the saying. She won most of her fights roided up but now finds herself in no man’s land!! Ronda can beat Cyborg any day of the week. Ronda is an olympic level fighter. Cyborg is a roided out fighter who now has to figure out how to fight with out the chemical help. That is why she is wanting out of her Strikeforce contract.

  4. It is stupid and infuriating to force the most powerful woman in MMA to give up her power to fight the marketable one. Ronda can and has fought at 145, and killed. She refused to go down to fight Sarah McMann, so why should Cyborg go down for her. And why should Cyborg quietly let them scrap her division? It’s the one she has dominated for years, it’s the one that made her famous, and there are great fighters in queue to fight her there. Marloes Cohen was forced to drop weight and lost her belt as a result. And then her job. Ronda is awesome, I love her, and 135 was a great choice for her career. But Cyborg is making the right call.

  5. I hope they let cyborg go, then once she has a win or two and is once again the best female fighter, in invictafc, make rousey step up, or just ignore her, because if cyborg ignores her rousey will find out the majority of people think she isca one trick pony, myes itsca good trick, but it works a lot easier when you are the bigger stronger girl, the only girl rousey has beaten that was clsoe to her size was budd,( who is still learnig the ground) its a hell of an advantage esp when combinined with the judo skills. Cyborg has a strenghth advantage, and like diaz said her judomis goodbut a guy has strnth to get outof it, well cyborg has thevstrenght to just toss rousey off her

  7. From a purely strategic standpoint, Ronda wants to fight Cyborg at a weight that will give her the most significant advantage. That extra 10 lbs will be absolute Hell for Cyborg to cut down, which will pay off big time for Ronda if they ever fight. Cyborg is the one who was caught doping, so she has no leverage at this point. Ronda should stick to her guns and fight on her own terms.
