Jessica Penne can now say something that no one else can say – she is the first ever InvictaFC champion.
Penne sunk in the triangle choke on the #1 atomweight fighter in the world Naho Sugiyama in round 2 to claim the 105 belt Saturday night at the promotion’s third card in Kansas City. Sugiyama should some great defense from the bottom in round one, but it was Penne fighting for ever inch to get the triangle choke in to become the champ.

In the co-main event, Shayna Baszle should off her unique style and got the rear naked choke on Sarah D’Allelio in round 2. Round one saw Baszler on D’Alleio’s back, with D’Alelio defending it, holding the arm of Baszler for most of the round. Baszler eventually took D’Alleio’s back and sunk in a rear naked choke in round 2 to get the victory.
With the win, Baszler is in contention for the first ever InvictaFC bantamweight title.
Smith (top) and Young (bottom)
In other action, Leslie Smith got a TKO victory over Kaitlin Young in their rematch of their epic bout at InvictaFC 1. Tara LaRosa saw defeat for only the third time in her career as Vanessa Porto took the victory in her flyweight debut. Also, Strikeforce’s Cat Zingano got her sixth straight win, getting the submission victory over Raquel Pennington.

Bonuses went to Joanne Calderwood for her KO over Ashley Cummings, submission was split between Jessamyn Duke (armbar win over Marciea Allen) and Stepahanie Frausto (guillotine choke win over Amy Davis). Fight of the night went to Michelle Waterson and Lacey Schukman. Calderwood, Waterson, and Schukman received $1000; with Frausto and Duke splitting their thousand dollar prize.
