Rousey
If there was another nail in the coffin for Strikeforce, it was Dana White wanting to build a UFC division around Ronda Rousey,
This is the plan accord to White’s comment in a recent Sports Illustrated article, attributing the Strikeforce champ for his current change of opinion. With two cancelled events with Strikeforce, it is seeming more and more like that Zuffa will cut ties with Showtime in 2013. Rousey has three fighters under her Showtime/Strikeforce contract.
One fighter does not make a division, however. Cyborg Santos has proven that. What will ultimately be the saving grace will be InvictaFC, who have developed their 135 division. Although several of their fighters are also on the Strikeforce roster, their development of viable challengers for Rousey will be important. This may turn from simply having Rousey do super fighters, as White stated several months ago, to having fighters like Miesha Tate and Sara McMann live the dream of being legitimate UFC fighters.
Obviously, no timeline is set. It all depends on Strikeforce and Showtime. If this happens, it will be a momentous event in women’s sports.

“The Curious Case of Ms. Ronda Rousey” …
It’s all about the “pretty” fighters, Rousey and Tate, everyone else is there to be stepping stones.
It’s not a “Women’s” division, it’s a “Hot girls” division, all about catering to the teenage fan base.
Hopefully fighters won’t bail on promotions like Invicta.
