Strikeforce champ Ronda Rousey can now claim to be one of the most popular fighters; male or female; on the planet.
Rousey scored a record four nominations and leads over her male counterparts for the Fighter’s Only MMA Awards. She also broke a barrier as being the first female fighter to be nominated “Fighter of the Year”. Her other nominations include “Breakout Fighter”, “Best Female Fighter”, and “Submission of the Year” (for her armbar of Miesha Tate).
Other nominees in the “Best Female Fighter” include: Jessica Aguilar, Sarah Kaufman, Sara McMann, and Miesha Tate.
With their debut year, InvictaFC also got two nominations; one for Promotion of the Year, and one for InvictaFC president Shannon Knapp for “Leading Man of the Year”. (Something they real should really look into changing that.)
Voting is underway at www.worldmmaawards.com and the winners will be announced in January 2013 at an award ceremony in Vegas.
