As 2012 comes to a close, two big weekends of women’s combat sports starts with two televised bouts, a lot of international action, and one of the most popular female boxers defending her title.
Action starts Friday morning as the Super Fight League will stream a bout between two international fighters. Spain’s Karla Benitez looks to avenge a May split decision loss to Russia’s Julia Berezikova. The action starts at 7:30 a.m. pacific on the Super Fight League’s Youtube channel.
Two other international bouts include Anna Hyvarinen versus Belinda Sedgwick at AFC 4 in Melbourne, Australia, and Kinberly Novaes versus Anne Karoline at Iron Fight Combat in Sergipe, Brazil. Neither one will be streamed.
Two top 10 flyweights will battle it out at Bellator live on MTV2. #7 ranked Zoila Gurgel will take on #4 ranked Jessica Eye in what was a match years in the making. Both Eye (124.5) and Gurgel (124.5) made weight in what will have ranking implications. The match will serve as the co-main event and the televised card will start at 5 p.m. pacific.
XFC will feature a strawweight bout on their televised card on AXS TV. Heather Clark will be making her 115 debut as she takes on Stephanie Eggink. Both made weight at 114.8 pounds, and will duke it out as a featured match. The televised card starts 7 p.m. pacific.
In boxing, IBA light welterweight champ Holly Holm will defend her title and hope to gain another belt, facing Diana Prazak for the vacant WBF crown. Holm tipped the scales at 138.8, while Prazak came in at 138. The undercard will feature Victoria Cisneros (138) taking on Mary McGee (138.8). The event won’t be streamed or aired, but follow us on twitter @WombatSports for the latest updates.
