WMMA lost one of it’s true innovators in Barry Meyer on Tuesday. The President of and co-founded of Tuff-n-uff MMA lost his bout with depression.
Meyer’s creation helped spawn some of the biggest names in the women’s divisions, starting with their first card which Invicta’s Lacey Schukman debuted in MMA. The main event was a female bout with Ginele Marquez defeating Angela Hayes. In 2010, he help push the female divisions with an all female card.
Among the stars he helped create include current UFC champion Ronda Rousey, CFA champion Ashlee Evans-Smith, and The Ultimate Fighter’s Jessamyn Duke.
Meyer also created an inspirational fighter belt in honor of “Mighty” Mia Hayes, who lost her bout with breast cancer in 2011.
His brother Jeff will carry on what him and his brother started in 2006.
Funeral services will be held in Las Vegas on Friday.
Our condolences to Meyer’s family. He will be missed.
