After giving away their first 3 awards Thursday, the WMMA Press Association has handed out three more awards Friday.
Fight of the Year went to Michelle Waterson and Jessica Penne for their battle at InvictaFC 5 in April 2013. In the match, Waterson would get the armbar in the 4th round to win the InvictaFC atomweight title.
The battle also helped Waterson win the Atomweight of the Year Award. Waterson has had a nearly seven year career in MMA and has a record 11-3. She has won her past 5 fights with four finishes and three submissions.
Submission of the Year also came at InvictaFC 5 with an amazing 12 second flying armbar by Rose Namajunas over Kathina Catron. The armbar is one of the fastest in the women’s divisions history and marked her second win as a professional. It gained national exposure in the general MMA media, and is on many other award’s best submission list going against some of the guys.
Namajunas is currently signed to be a part of the Ultimate Figher 20.
