The all female promotion DEEP-JEWELS has announced they will crown its first 135 champ May 18th in Tokyo, Japan. The CJ Report gave us a break down of the upcoming D-J 4 card.
Shizuka Sugiyama and Takayo Hashi will fight for the vacant title.
Sugiyama (11-3-1) is on a six fight undefeated streak including a win over Strikeforce vet Megumi Yabushita. The six year vet of the sport is coming off a first round TKO win over Mizuho Sato and a draw with Korea’s Ji-Yeon Kim.
Hashi (14-4) was on an eight fight win streak before losing to Sarah Kaufman for the inaugural Strikeforce 135 title. She dropped to 125 before losing to top stars Tara LaRosa and Cat Zingano. She got a decision over Roxanne Modafferi in 2012 before taking some time off and returning in March, like Sugiyama, getting a draw over Kim.
Other matches include Saori Ishioka (12-7) dropping to atomweight to take on Satomi Takano (3-3), and Yuko Kawabata (0-5) battling Naomi Taniyama (0-2), who are both looking for their first pro wins.
More matches are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Word is DEEP-JEWELS will be streaming the matches on the UStream channel for a price yet to be determined.
