InvictaFC 22 card Shapes Up with Hamasaki vs. Souza; Bennett vs. Esquibel

The strawweights will be featured prominently on the InvictaFC 22 card in Kansas City March 25, which will stream on UFC Fight Pass. Joining the main event of the second meeting between bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger and Yana Kunitskaya will be four fights at 115 and an atomweight tilt.

The co-main event will see atomweight champ Ayaka Hamasaki move back up to strawweight to face former champion Livia Renata Souza. Hamaski (14-1) only loss is to Claudia Gadelha and is looking to be the first in InvictaFC history to hold two belts. Souza is back and wanting to regain her belt to make her argument fr the octagon.

The feature attraction sees a bout that was intended for InvictaFC as  DeAnna Bennett (8-2) takes on Jodie Esquibel (5-2). Bennett is coming off back to back losses to two of the toughest in their respective divisions – Roxanne Modaffero at flyweight and Spuza at strawweight. Esquibel is coming off a decision loss to Alexa Grasso.

Iceland’s Sunna Rannveig Davidsdottir will make her second appearance in Invicta facing  debutante Mallory Martin. Davidsdottir is the 2015 IMMAF flyweight champion and a teammate of Gunnar Nelson. Martin is a former training partner of Cat Zingano, but now makes her home in Thailand. She is coming off a win in China’s Kunlun Fight in December.

In a battle of talented wrestlers Kal Holldiay will face Miranda Maverick.  Both coming off rear naked choke wins in their promotional debuts, the Marine Holliday and collegiate wrestling look to impress once again.

The lone atomweight bout so far sees former title challenger Jinh Yu Frey (5-2) taking on the undefeated Brazilian Janaisa Morandin (9-0). Frey was on a three fight run before losing by doctor’s stoppage in her title fight with Hamasaki. Janaisa Morandin (9-0) will be making her North American debut after a successful career in Brazil.

There will be at least two more bouts announced for the event in the coming week.
