I recently had the chance to have a quick Chat with Lacey Schuckman. If you’ve been hiding under a rock and you don’t know who Lacey is, you’re in for a treat. She is a beast in her division, which is a mere 110lbs, and to most seems like it would be impossible for anyone of her stature to do any real damage. However, you would be sadly mistaken to jump into a cage with Lacey expecting not to get bullied around…
Olympic Bronze medalist judoka Ronda Rousey has yet to see a second minute and was able to dismantle Charmaine Tweet quickly in 49 seconds. Rousey got one takedown, but was unable to hold Tweet. After some striking, Rousey took down Tweet again and it’s was elementary from there.

Ediane Gomes, Sara McMann, and Ronda Rousey played a game of one-upmanship Friday as each took less than a minute to submit their respective opponent.
It started at the Blackeye Entertainment card in Fletcher, NC, when Ediane Gomes (7-2) came back from losing to Rousey via armbar in 25 seconds in March by defeating Kat Alendal with an anklelock in 42 seconds. Not to be out done, Olympic silver medalist in wrestling McMann (2-0) got an armbar on Olympic bronze medalist weightlifter Julie Malenfant in 32 seconds.
Meanwhile in Calgary, Canada, after all the drama leading into the fight between Rousey and Charmaine Tweet (Rousey was offered a Strikeforce match, but was unable to get out her contract with the Hard Knocks Fighting Championships), it only took 49 seconds for her to armbar Tweet. Expect Rousey to announce she is signing with Strikeforce in the next week.
Back at the Blackeye card, Glena Avila defeats Angelica Brotherton via armbar at 4:01 of round 3 in her pro debut, which gained them Fight of the Night honors. Avila was undefeated in the amateur ranks and is looking to be a rising star in the 115 pound ranks.
Vanessa Mariscal goes 2-0 with a win over Colleen Schneider via rear naked choke at 1:40 of round 3.
The northeastern U.S. had two female fights scheduled. Sarah Maloy had fell down some stairs before her American Fight Organization match with Katie Merrill, and had to withdraw from the fight. Maloy had a pinched nerve in her back, but should be okay.
Finally, Munah Holland improves to 2-1 when she defeated Marissa Caldwell via TKO at 1:00 of round 2 at the Ring of Combat card in Atlantic City, NJ.
It is a loaded weekend across the country and around the world for women’s MMA.
Besides the big four matches at the Blackeye Entertainment card and the Ronda Rousey verse Charmaine Tweet in Calgary, five more matches are there to pick up the slack for the canceled Strikeforce matches.

In the first women’s match in mainland China’s history, Tiffany VanSoest will be facing Sanda practitioner Tang “Don King” Jin in the first ever women’s MMA fight in mainland China’s history, happening at a mixed kickboxing/MMA event hosted by WBC Muay Thai. Because all the women’s matches on the Strikeforce on Saturday doesn’t mean the weekend isn’t still a big one for the female fighters.
Blackeye Entertainment has a solid fight card in Ashville, NC with ten fighters looking to get the attention of the major promotions.
The headline bought features Olympic silver medalist in wrestling Sara McMann in her second pro match against Canada’s Olympic weightlifter Julie Malenfant. Olympic Bronze medalist judoka Ronda Rousey has a goal – to face Strikeforce 145 pound champion Cyborg Santos by the end of the year. However she has a big obstacle in her way, Canadian Muay Thai champ Charmaine Tweet this Friday in Calgary at Hard Knocks Fighting Championships.
#10 ranked 145 pounder Rousey went 3-0 in the amateur ranks, have yet seen the second minute before submitting her opponents with armbars. In her pro debut in March, she only took 25 seconds to submit contender Ediane Gomes to break into the rankings.
Tweet will be the first world class striker Rousey will have faced. With a 11-1-1 record in kickboxing, Tweet is making her pro debut after winning her amateur MMA debut by first round guillotine submission May 28 at the Saturday Night Fights card in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
According to an article on MMARising.com, Rousey was offered as a replacement for Gina Carano for Strikeforce card in Dallas this weekend, but due to contractual obligations with HKFC and GoFightLive; the decision was to have Rousey face Tweet. (This match was booked three months ago.)
