Germaine de Randamie & Julia Budd Ready to Go for Strikeforce Challengers

The first female fight under the Zuffa banner is set for Friday night.

Germaine de Randamie (145) and Julia Budd (145.5) were on weight for their match at Strikeforce Challengers Friday night in Kent, WA.

This is a rematch of sorts, as Randamie TKOed Budd in a kickboxing match in 2008. Since then, Budd wanted a rematch, and Randamie was more than willing to accept.

The winner of this match could have a strong argument as a challenger to Cyborg Santos’s 145 pound title.

Strikeforce Challengers will be live on Showtime Friday night.

Julie Kedzie vs. Alexis Davis Scheduled for Strikeforce July 30

As Strikeforce 135 pound champion Marloes Coenen takes on Miesha Tate for her belt, two possible contenders for the title will be featured July 30’s undercard.

Fighting veteran Julie Kedzie, who is #9 in the Unified Rankings, will face former Raging Wolf champion and #7 ranked Alexis Davis at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson in Chicago.

Davis (9-4) has faced some of the best in the world, and has a win over Tonya Evinger. She lost a close split decsion to Shayan Baszler last year at Freestyle Cage Fighting, which was a match of the year candidate.

Kedzie (16-8) has been a staple of women’s MMA since the early days of the sport, and is hot off a win against Kaitlin Young. Get to Know Ladie Lacey Schuckman

by Amber –

I recently had the chance to have a quick Chat with Lacey Schuckman. If you’ve been hiding under a rock and you don’t know who Lacey is, you’re in for a treat. She is a beast in her division, which is a mere 110lbs, and to most seems like it would be impossible for anyone of her stature to do any real damage. However, you would be sadly mistaken to jump into a cage with Lacey expecting not to get bullied around…

Friday Night WMMA Results – It’s Not a Race Ladies…

Ediane Gomes
Ronda Rousey
Sara Mann

Ready, set, submit!

Ediane Gomes, Sara McMann, and Ronda Rousey played a game of one-upmanship Friday as each took less than a minute to submit their respective opponent.

It started at the Blackeye Entertainment card in Fletcher, NC, when Ediane Gomes (7-2) came back from losing to Rousey via armbar in 25 seconds in March by defeating Kat Alendal with an anklelock in 42 seconds. Not to be out done, Olympic silver medalist in wrestling McMann (2-0) got an armbar on Olympic bronze medalist weightlifter Julie Malenfant in 32 seconds.

Meanwhile in Calgary, Canada, after all the drama leading into the fight between Rousey and Charmaine Tweet (Rousey was offered a Strikeforce match, but was unable to get out her contract with the Hard Knocks Fighting Championships), it only took 49 seconds for her to armbar Tweet. Expect Rousey to announce she is signing with Strikeforce in the next week.

Back at the Blackeye card, Glena Avila defeats Angelica Brotherton via armbar at 4:01 of round 3 in her pro debut, which gained them Fight of the Night honors. Avila was undefeated in the amateur ranks and is looking to be a rising star in the 115 pound ranks.

Vanessa Mariscal goes 2-0 with a win over Colleen Schneider via rear naked choke at 1:40 of round 3.

The northeastern U.S. had two female fights scheduled. Sarah Maloy had fell down some stairs before her American Fight Organization match with Katie Merrill, and had to withdraw from the fight. Maloy had a pinched nerve in her back, but should be okay.

Finally, Munah Holland improves to 2-1 when she defeated Marissa Caldwell via TKO at 1:00 of round 2 at the Ring of Combat card in Atlantic City, NJ.
